Training Nights

Regular training nights are typically held on weekday evenings on the main grounds.

Weekly training nights focus on teaching concepts such as how to better read your dog, demonstrating yard work and drills for dog skill development.

Training nights are well attended, bringing together long-term and new members to share their knowledge and gain valuable experience. Nights are held each week during the training season, weather permitting.

The 2021 organized training night schedule is as follows:

Hunter & Retriever Training
– Intended for dogs over six months of age looking to gain a basic foundation of hunting and retrieving skills
– Train your dog to retrieve game birds and become a better hunting companion.
– This course will cover basic obedience and retrieving skills on land and water. 
– The course will challenge the handler and dog and is recommended for dog six months or older.
– Held on select Tuesday nights

Gun Dog Academy
– Intended for dogs over six months of age looking to gain a basic foundation of hunting and retrieving skills
– Includes training for an AKC Junior Hunt Test
– Held on select Tuesday nights
– Limited to six dogs and handlers

Beyond the Basics
– Intended for dogs and handlers that have the basics down and are looking for more advanced training
– Dogs should be comfortable with gunfire, swimming, steady to throw, have drive to retrieve with distractions
– Handlers should have basic dog experience – either with a prior hunting dog or basic retriever training
