Hello NDRC members:
It has been a busy summer at NDRC!
Just want to give you an update on all the club happenings—-
The MN DNR R3 Hunter and Retriever Outreach program started August 6th and is going very well! There are 16 participants who are enthusiastic about learning and are a pleasure to work with. Thank you to Clark Emery for facilitating the dog training part of this program and to Doug Wambach for assisting him. Thank to Mark VanBeek and Doug and Mary Martin for all their help with this program also.
In addition to the sixteen people enrolled in the R3 program, an additional 25+ people expressed interest in the program. Thus we decided to offer these people a training opportunity on Monday nights in a five week class. Thank you to Ronnie Lee who graciously volunteered to be the instructor for this class. We have about 10 people participating each week. Thanks to Kris Altenbernd and Doug Martin for helping with this class. It is great to see the progress of all of these dogs and their owners.
The midweek hunt test and August field trial were a success. Thank you to Chad Gullikson and Chris Davies for chairing the 90 dog Master and to Bob Louiseau, Daren Galloway, and Doug Wambach for all their work on the field trial.
The September hunt test will be this coming weekend September 6, 7, and 8.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you are able to help, please contact Scott Schrock at 701-893-8999.
In addition, at the hunt test on Saturday morning at 8:15 am, Scott Schrock will be giving a presentation on the basics of the Junior hunt test. If you want to know more about doing a junior hunt test, this will be a great learning opportunity.
Finally, It’s time to get ready for hunting season!!
On Sunday September 15th NDRC will be hosting a hunting situation training at 1pm followed by a family picnic at 4 pm. Everyone is welcome, member or not!
The training day will consist of layout blinds, dog stands, decoys, multiple dogs, single dogs, multiple marks, single marks, blinds, you name it-as close to real duck hunting as you can get out of season.
The picnic will start at 4pm and is for the whole family. There will be a cookout and beverages. Come and hang out with other retriever enthusiasts!
