2026 Intermediate Hunting & Retrieving Training Course

This is a “Train-The-Trainer” course designed to help teach you and your dog to become better upland and waterfowl hunters. This course is designed to challenge the trainer and dog.

During the course, you will learn advanced dog handling skills, proper use of the training whistle, and practice multiple retrieves of game birds. You will also be given information on AKC and HRC retriever events. You will participate in a simulated hunts after which you will learn to clean game birds. The course will conclude with a BBQ Potluck Dinner to network and share your experiences with fellow NDRC classmates from all levels! By the end of the course, you should have a deeper foundation of skills necessary to continue training your retriever to hunt and retrieve upland and waterfowl game birds.

Prerequisites for this course are a solid, off-leash obedience level with your dog, a willingness to train at least 30 minutes a day outside of class, and dogs must have either a Junior Hunter title OR must have completed the NDRC Beginner course. Recommended for dogs six months and older.

Classes begin Tuesday May 12th and end late July, depending on desired participation. Class participation will be limited to allow for maximum training potential.
